Home Depot Return / Refund / Exchange Policies
This is a very flexible policy as Home Depot will cover the cost of return shipping and there is 90 days to return items.
Homedepot.ca will pay for the shipping fees to return your order.
You can arrange to have your order picked up at a time and place that works for you.
You can return your purchase up to 90 days from the day your order was placed.
To return your order, place one simple phone call to 1-800-628-0525.
Items Purchased Online
To return merchandise, call us at 1-800-628-0525 and we’ll arrange for your item to be picked up and returned free of charge as well as provide you with a return authorization number (RA#). Items purchased online or by phone cannot be returned to our stores. Merchandise must be returned in unused, like-new condition with a pre-authorized RA# from the call centre or a credit cannot be issued.
Merchandise must be returned within 90 days of purchase in unused, like-new condition.
Items purchased on homedepot.ca cannot be returned to our stores.
A copy of the customer receipt and original packing slip must accompany all returns.
A refund will be issued only to the original credit card.
Please call our Customer Care Centre at 1-800-628-0525 to arrange for a pick-up and obtain an RA#.
Use the original packaging or a strong corrugated carton.
Include the customer receipt and original packing slip, then pack and tape your package securely, please indicate the RA# and reason for return on the invoice.
Certified Reconditioned Merchandise
Reconditioned merchandise damaged or lost in transit may not be replaced depending on availability of items in like condition. Where the merchandise is eligible for return, refunds will be provided in such cases. Eligible returns on reconditioned merchandise are free of charge. Please follow the Return Instructions listed above.
Damaged Items and Shortage Claims
Please report damaged or missing items within 3 days of delivery by calling toll free 1-800-628-0525.
Items That Use Flammable Liquids or Gases
Please note that items that use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned if used because they create a safety hazard. For example, if you filled your leaf blower with fuel, it cannot be returned via mail even if you drain the tank before shipping. Please call 1-800-628-0525 for instructions.

Items Purchased in Our Stores
For fast, easy returns, keep your receipt. It not only ensures that you get the proper credit for your purchase, but it also helps our Associates process your return quickly.
Returns with an Original Sales Receipt Within 90 Days of Purchase
Any purchase made by credit card will be refunded to the original credit card.
Any purchase made by cash will be refunded in cash; any purchase made by debit card will be refunded to the original debit card.
Any purchase made by a cheque that has cleared the 15-day waiting period will be refunded in cash.
Any purchase made by a cheque that has not cleared the 15-day waiting period may be refunded as a Store Credit.
Any purchase made by Store Credit, Gift Certificate or Gift Card will be refunded as Store Credit.
Returns with an Original Sales Receipt After 90 Days of Purchase
A Store Credit or credit to a Home Depot Commercial Credit Account may be issued for the original purchase price.*
Returns Without a Sales Receipt
If you made your purchase in the past 90 days by credit, debit, or cheque we may be able to look up your receipt for you.
If we are unable to look up your receipt because you did not pay with one of the options listed above, a Store Credit or credit to your Home Depot Commercial credit account may be issued based on the lowest selling price.
Some Special Order returns subject to 15% restocking fee. Cancellations may be subject to 15% restocking fee. See the Special Services Desk for details.
Custom made products: No returns.
Custom tinted paint department products: No returns.
Gift Cards, Gift Certificates, and Store Credit cannot be exchanged or returned for cash, credit or cheque.
The Home Depot reserves the right to request valid identification prior to accepting merchandise for a return.
The Home Depot reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason.
The Home Depot will only accept the return of merchandise purchased from The Home Depot store.
Items purchased at a U.S. Home Depot may not be returned in Canada.
Purchases made with a Customer Agreement must be returned to the same location in which it was purchased. See Special Services Desk for details.
* The Home Depot may issue a cheque for refunds over $1,000 (cheques are mailed from Home Depot’s Store Support Centre in Atlanta, GA).
